Working alongside community leaders and the municipal government, FutaFriends aims to improve locals leadership skills, promoting participation in the community's development strategy. FutaFriends works to conserve the region's cultural and environmental character by strengthening community members' participation and role in the municipality's development plan. A goal of the organization is to raise the environmental conscience of the region, demonstrating the benefits that Futaleufu's pristine environment gives to the community.

Futaleufu Awareness Campaign
FutaFriends partnered with local, national and international NGOs, providing on-the-ground updated information on the present situation in Futaleufu. Partnerships with organizations, such as EarthWorks, NRDC, and International Rivers allow for greater effectiveness in fighting the continuing threats arriving to the Futaleufu Valley. Geocom Resources and Kinross Gold Corporation are our strongest opponents in the fight for the protection of the Futaleufu River Valley.

No Dirty Gold Campaign
EarthWorks manages the No Dirty Gold Campaign with the purpose of informing gold consumers on the negative impacts that dirty mining can have on the environment. The typical consumer doesn't know where most gold comes from, or how its mined. Gold mining is a dirty business and consumer awareness is necessary to decrease its impact on the environment. EarthWorks, an international conservation organization specializing in mining issues, has gone on record stating that gold mining is one of the dirtiest businesses in the world. The gold extraction process uses cyanide, toxic to wildlife, livestock, and humans. Mines generate heaps of waste and create long lasting scars on the environment and communities.
