Impact of the Chaiten Volcano
At this time, FutaFriends is accepting donations for the Chaiten Volcano Relief Fund, however, since the volcano continues to spew ash and its' impact on Futaleufu has not been fully analyzed, our action plan or our area of influence has yet to be defined. Interested donors are suggested to hold their donations until further information is available or allow their donation to be allocated without limitations. The present situation in Futaleufu is normal, as community members are returning to their homes and resuming their normal way of life. The ash plume from the Chaiten Volcano is being blown north, away from the Futaleufu region.
FutaFriends is working with the Chilean Government and other relief agencies to define the action strategy for the region. Our organization hopes to further enhance the Chilean Government's aid by filling the gaps and improving their relief efforts. The present impact of the eruption was minimal to the town of Futaleufu, with a thin layer of ash averaging a few inches thick. As more information comes available, our organization will update this website.
